The Semi Finals of the play-offs start on Saturday, May 1st. The ProBuild Lions battle AutoCAD Amazone in a best-of-five series. The series continue on Thursday May 5th in Utrecht and we'll be back in Landsmeer on Saturday May 8th.
Since AutoCAD Amazone joined the league in 2005, they met ProBuild in 24 games. In 16 cases the Lions were victorious, and in 8 cases AutoCAD won. Five of their victories the Lions posted this season.
AutoCAD Amazone reached the semis through a 2-0 sweep of Wereldtickets Amazone. The Lions' coaching staff and some of the players watched the last game in Leiderdorp on Sunday. They saw a breathtaking last minute, with Amazone's Heather Zurich draining a series-winning 3-pointer in the buzzer.
Coach Laki Lakner said he had no preference for one of the teams. "They play more or less the same kind of basketball", he said. "On the other hand, ProBuild and AutoCAD have more of a history together, having met in a semi finals before, and also in final four finals and cup finals. Being matched up with Amazone makes the series a bit more charged, which is fun."
The first game in Landsmeer starts on Saturday at 7:30 PM CET.

ProBuild Lions made the semi-finals of the play-off for the 7th consecutive time. In Delft the Lions posted a 65-73 victory over Woonbron DAS.
Kati Harty scored 28 and Belinda Bos contributed 18. Molly McDowell added 10 points.
Reggie Maddox scored 24 points in her farewell game for Woonbron DAS. Tahnee Vogelsang had 18 points.
Offensively the Lions had an off-night, but they used their defense to hold Woonbron DAS to just 20 points in the first half. Scoring 30 points themselves, ProBuild managed to keep this margin of 10 points more or less in tact the rest of the game.
Coach Laki Lakner had another kind of game in mind, but credited his team for playing tight defense for most part. "Our shots did not fell, except for Kati's and Belinda's, who combined for 46 points, both against more than 60%," he said. "Defensively we did an admirable job in the first half, holding DAS to just 20 points, but in the second half we allowed 45. Obviously we kept up with them, but in the fourth it kind of went out of hand, we lost control defensively."
Nevertheless Lakner stated that he was happy to have reached the semis and having finished the series in two games. "It allows us to take a whole week to prepare for the next round", he said. "AutoCAD and Wereldtickets meet tomorrow, so we still don't know who to prepare for. If Wereldtickets wins, we still don't know it, but in that case Saturday we will be well-rested, and whoever we play probably is not, after a third and decisive game on Thursday."
ProBuild took a 7-11 lead in the first period, but DAS had a 7-0 run to get ahead 14-11 after the quarter.
Nadine Boesaart drained a 3-pointer in the 6th minute of the second period to make it 18-24. Next Belinda Bos went to work, scoring 4 straight baskets to give the Lions a 10-point edge at intermission, 20-30.
In the third period the margin stayed the same, 38-48, but in the fourth quarter the Lions posted their largest lead of the game, 50-65. With two minutes to go, however, Woonbron had narrowed the gap to 56-65. In the final 120 seconds of the game the Lions and DAS traded baskets at a fast pace, keeping the margin more or less intact.
Saturday the Lions travel to the medieval city of Delft, where in 1584 the Prince of Orange was killed during the 80-years war of independence, which the Netherlands fought against Spain.
The battle ProBuild has to fight in Delft is of another nature, and there's no killing involved, but in sport-terms the stakes are high. It's play-off time. If the Lions take a win, they reach the semifinals.
In that case they have a whole week to recover and prepare for the next round, where they will meet either AutoCAD Amazone or Wereldtickets Leiderdorp in a best-of-five-series.
In case of a loss on Saturday, there will be a third game in Landsmeer next Wednesday.
But coach Laki Lakner is not planning to lose. He and his staff have his team well-prepared and if the Lions stick to the game-plan and stay sharp and concentrated, not much can go wrong.
The game starts at 7:00 PM CET.

The ProBuild Lions got off to a rousing start in the best-of-three series, posting an 87-55 win over Woonbron DAS.
Molly McDowell and Kati Harty combined for 46 points, with McDowell scoring 24 and Harty 22.
Tahnee Vogelsang scored 19 points for DAS and Reggie Maddox 15.
For the most past ProBuild controlled the game. They started sharply. Molly McDowell hit a 3-pointer in the third minute to give the Lions a 9-0 lead. Five minutes later the Lions had stretched the margin to 21-4, but DAS managed to cut it to 24-12 by the end of the period.
Reggie Maddox scored 11 of her 15 points in the second quarter, sparking a 0-9 start of DAS to cut their deficit to 24-21 before Marijn Neyndorff drained a trey to make it 27-21.
"I was very pleased with our game start", coach Laki Lakner said. "Usually it takes us some time to get going. But this time we took a 17 point lead in the first and let it wither away almost completely in the second."
At intermission ProBuild led 35-30, but had a late surge in the third period to take a 20-point lead at the start of the fourth, 64-44.
After Nadine Boesaart started the last period by draining a 3-pointer, it was time for the Lions to start cruising. Coach Lakner let in his bench players, who did an admirable job stretching the lead to 32 points. It helped that Reggie Maddox and Daniëlle de Vreede both fouled out during the quarter.
Wednesday the ProBuild Lions are scheduled for the first game in the quarterfinals of the play-offs. The Lions are matched with number 8 seeded Woonbron DAS in a best-of-three series.
The second game will take place on Saturday in Leiderdorp. If necessary a third meeting will be held in Landsmeer on Wednesday.
Woonbron DAS endured a season filled with injuries. Starters like Reggie Maddox, Joanna Semerda and Irene Sloof were sidelined for months. Only recently Maddox and Semerda returned, but Sloof is out for the season to have knee surgery.
A healthy Woonbron DAS is not to be underestimated. Coach Laki Lakner said he is not planning to do so. That is why he is taking his team through a thorough preparation. Hopefully Lakner has his team ready and sharp on Wednesday.

In the last game of the regular competition ProBuild Lions beat Wereldtickets Leiderdorp 69-60.
Kati Harty led ProBuild with 18 points. Molly McDowell and Anouk Biesters both had 13. The Lions shot 41.5% from the floor and 47.4% from behind the 3-point-line.
Karen Heinen and Ilana Vergunst did not play due to injuries. Heinen is still recovering from a concussion she suffered in February and Vergunst was hit by an elbow under the eye in the Lions' last game at Groningen.
Most of the game the Lions lacked sharpness. After the first period they trailed 13-23, but managed to almost close the gap at the break, 37-38.
In the third period ProBuild took the lead, reaching double digits in the 3rd minute of the last period, when Kati Harty nailed a 3-pointer to make it 58-48.
However, Bridget Yoerger, Judy Wright and Rosanne Kruithof fueled a 2-12 Wereldtickets run to tie the game with less than 3 minutes to go, 60-60.
After a time-out by coach Lakner the Lions decided it was time to show some sharpness. Kati Harty fed Molly McDowell under the Leiderdorp basket for a lay-up. Next Harty drained a 3-pointer and stole the ball from Judy Wright on the way back, before dishing it to a sprinting Jasmijn Overbeeke, 67-60.
On the next Wereldticket offense Overbeeke blocked a shot by Bridget Yoerger, before Anouk Biesters sealed the win with a driving lay-up, 69-60.
Wednesday ProBuild Lions hosts Wereldtickets for the final game of the regular season. For the Lions the result is of no importance anymore, but Wereldtickets needs a win to hold the fifth play-off spot.
Coach Laki Lakner said he takes the game seriously and he expects the Lions to take the victory.
Game starts at 7:15 PM CET.

ProBuild Lions clinched the first playoff spot tonight. In the city of Groningen they routed Celeritas 62-86. Their first opponent will be 8th seeded Woonbron DAS, who lost to HLB Accountants tonight.
Kati Harty scored 24 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 7 assists. Marie Hoogstraten contributed 14 points and Marijn Neydorff had 12.
Megan Griffith scored 32 points for Celeritas, carrying more than 50% of the scoring load for her team.
The Lions led 5-13 after 6 minutes, when Ilana Vergunst drained a 3-pointer from the corner. After the quarter the margin was 15-22. In the second period ProBuild stretched the lead to 26-38, but Celeritas managed to narrow the gap to
just six points at halftime, 34-40.
Ilana Vergunst went to the bench in the first period with a large bruise under her left eye. She returned in the third quarter, but only played for a few minutes.
ProBuild stepped on the gas pedal right after intermission, with Jasmijn Overbeeke scoring 5 points in a 2-9 break, 37-49.
Next Kati Harty went to work, making 9 straight points to put the Lions up 39-58 in the 6th minute. After the quarter ProBuild led 45-66.
In the last period coach Lakner used his whole bench to seal the win. Marijn Neyndorff nailed two 3-pointers and hit a beautiful turn-around jumper.
Saturday ProBuild Lions travel to the north-east part of the Netherlands to meet Celeritas in the city of Groningen.
Celeritas holds the 7th play-off spot. Upward mobility is not likely anymore for Celeritas, but swapping spots with 8th seeded Woonbron DAS still is a possibility. In that case Celeritas will be the matched with ProBuild if the Lions manage to hold the first position. They can do that by winning one of the last two games, which means the first play-off berth can be earned on Saturday.
In that case the last meeting with Wereldtickets next Wednesday can be looked upon as a practice game.
Game starts at 7:30 PM CET.

Kati Harty scored 22 points to lead the ProBuild Lions to a 71-54 victory over AutoCAD Amazone on Monday afternoon.
As HLB Accountants Den Helder surprisingly dropped a game to Wereldtickets this weekend, the Lions are two points up now with two games to go in the regular competition.
Jasmijn Overbeeke posted a double-double, with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Anouk Biesters chipped in with 10 points. Molly McDowell had 9, shooting 2-out-of-9 from the floor.
With AutoCAD Whitney Jones scored 17 points, Maaike van den Bovenkamp had 12 and Heather Zurich contributed 10 points.
The Lions trailed 16-19 after the first period, but posted a 14-2 run in the second to gain a 38-28 lead at intermission. In the third quarter Jasmijn Overbeeke, Ilana Vergunst, Anouk Biesters, Marie Hoogstraten en Belinda Bos all hit 3-pointers to push ProBuild ahead 62-39 in the 9th minute.
After a time-out by coach Jan Poels of Amazone, Maaike van den Bovenkamp hit two consecutive baskets and Heather Zurich made it 62-45 after the quarter.
The Amazones continued their run in the fourth. The Liosn did not make a point in the first five minutes, and AutoCAD cut the margin to 62-52 before Molly McDowell nailed a trey to make it 65-62.
Four minutes later, Jasmijn Overbeeke stole the ball with less than 1 second to go and made it 71-54.
Coach Laki Lakner credited his team for their two straight victories within three days. "We worked hard this weekend, on and off the field. And with Den Helder's loss to Wereldtickets, we only have to win one of our remaining two games to stay in the first play-off berth. So, yes, it definitely was a good Easter weekend."
Molly McDowell scored 17 points and Kati Harty contributed 14 as the ProBuild Lions posted a lopsided 66-87 victory over Challenge Sports Binnenland.
Three other Lions reached double figures: Marie Hoogstraten scored 13 points, Ilana Vergunst had 11 and Anouk Biesters 10.
The Lions jumped on Binnenland in the first minutes of the game, opening a 6-17 lead before letting it slip away to 17-21 after the quarter.
In the second period the game stayed close. ProBuild hit five 3-pointers, but was sloppy at defense, allowing Binnenland to score 23 points. At intermission the Lions' margin was cut to just 3 points, 38-41.
In the locker room coach Laki Lakner asked his team to step up on defense. And that was exactly what the Lions did, allowing Binnenland just 6 points in the third period, while scoring 30 points themselves.
After leading 44-54 in the 6th minute, ProBuild posted a 0-17 run, which was capped by a score and a free throw by Molly McDowell, to take a 44-71 lead after the quarter.
The fourth period was a mere formality, with coach Lakner calling his starters to the bench and the reserves cruising to a 87-66 win.
ProBuild Lions conquered the Dutch Cup for the third consecutive time, this time by beating HLB Accountants 63-65.
It is also the third price the Lions win this season, after winning the Supercup and the Final Four Tournament.
Kati Harty led ProBuild with 28 points. Molly McDowell contributed 19.
The Lions led 11-17 after the first quarter, but saw the lead melt away in the second. At intermission Den Helder had taken over the lead, 30-28. In the second half the game stayed close until the end.
With less than 2 minutes to go, ProBuild trailed 59-54. Jasmijn Overbeeke made a lay-up after Ilana Vergunst stole the ball. Kati Harty immediately stole it again and scored. She was fouled and converted the free-throw, 59-59.
After another free throw by Harty, a basket of Den Helder and two free throws of Molly McDowell, Anouk Biesters made it 61-64. Marloes Roetgerink scored for HLB, 63-64, but Nadine Boesaart split a pair of free throws.
With 4 seconds on the clock Maaike Klein had a chance to tie the game for Den Helder, but missed. Jasmijn Overbeeke grabbed the rebound and hold the ball until the buzzer sounded.
Coach Laki Lakner said it was a typical final, with a lot of mistakes were being made and a lot of nervousness. "But we showed a lot of character and fighting spirit and I am proud of that. HLB had a good night, we did not, and still we won. That says something. This is a great night."
After having showered the Lions and the 250 fans who accompanied them traveled back to Landsmeer, where the party lasted until early in the morning.
Saturday the ProBuild Lions are scheduled to fight another battle with their rivals HLB Accountants, this time in the Finals of the Dutch Cup Competition.
HLB holds a 6-3 advantage over the Lions in winning the Cup, but had their main period of glory in the nineties. In 1997, 1998 and 1999 Den Helder three-peated, but it was not before 2007 their next Cup was won.
The Lions successes come from more recent times. They conquered the Dutch Cup in 2006, 2008 and 2009 and are sstriving to three-peat in 2010.
The Finals will take place in the Topsport Centre of Almere, just a 25 minutes drive from Landsmeer. Good news for the fans, but the Topsport Centre also brings a disadvantage. It's the home court of the Dutch team. As HLB's starting line-up consists of Dutch team-players, and their coach Meindert van Veen's second job is coaching the Dutch team, the court and the baskets are quite familiar to them.
The Lions fans will have to make up for this, wearing red and making lots of noise, as they did in Den Helder last week.
The regular season is not over yet, but the Dutch already elected their best five players of the season. Efficiently as always the Dutch Basketball Association declared the first five picks for the All Star game to be the Dutch Basketball Association's First Team of the season also.
ProBuild's Kati Harty was elected MVP. Until now Harty averaged 20 points, 4.7 steals, 3.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists.
Molly McDowell also appeared in the All Star game. No other ProBuild-players were elected.
The other four First Team choices were: Leonie Kooij, Marloes Roetgerink (both HLB Accountants), Bridget Yoerger and Zera Butter (both Wereldtickets).
Coach Rob Brand of Challenge Sport Binnenland was elected as coach of the year.
Lions drop game to Eurosped

Two tough games in three days proved to be too much for ProBuild Lions. On their own home court the Lions took a 60-79 loss to Eurosped Twente.
In points ProBuild once again is tied with HLB Accountants, but the Lions still are in the first seed because they are 2-0 against HLB. But they cannot afford another loss anymore.
Kati Harty scored 29 points and Molly McDowell contributed 15. Eurosped's Sharon Beld had 32 and Theresa LeCuyer 18.
Coach Laki Lakner kept Anouk Biesters on the bench. "Two games in three days are are more than she can have now", physiotherapist René Wormhoudt said. "Better to have her in good condition in the Cup Final next week." Lakner agreed with that.
But without Biesters and Heinen, a very motivated Eurosped proved to be a little too much for the Lions. "They had an extreme good night", coach Laki Lakner said. "Their shots fell, ours did not. And we were a step too slow every time. Thursdays' win obviously took its toll."
Molly McDowell scored 5 points and Kati Harty 9 to combine for the Lions' first 14 points of the game. After six minutes ProBuild held a 14-12 lead, but Eurosped had a 0-9 run to gain a 14-21 lead after the quarter.
Eurosped's Sharon Beld was unstoppable and for the Lions the basket seemed smaller than usual tonight. At intermission ProBuild trailed 28-38.
Eurosped stretched the margin to 37-54 in the third, but the Lions fought themselves back into the game, trailing 46-57 at the start of the last period.
With every basket answered in the fourth, it proved to be impossible to close the gap. Kati Harty drained a 3-pointer to make it 59-72 with three minutes to go, but it was answered by a 1-9 run, resulting in a lopsided 60-79 loss.
ProBuild Lions beat HLB Accountants 74-78 to exclude them from the nr 1 spot.
It looked like the Lions would cruise to another lopsided victory in Den Helder, but it turned out differently this time.
Leading 18 points in the third period, the Lions saw their lead melt away in the fourth, as HLB closed in to a minimal margin of one point.
Molly McDowell scored 19 points, Anouk Biesters had 16 and Kati Harty contributed 15. Jasmijn Overbeeke and Ilana Vergunst both scored 11. Biesters also grabbed 9 rebounds and Overbeeke had 8.
Coach Laki Lakner happily credited his team for pulling out this important win, but was a little worried by HLB's comeback in the final period. "Usually we have no trouble breaking a press, but tonight we got ourselves into trouble, turning over the ball and allowing lay-ups. We have to work on that next week before entering the Cup Final. But overall we did a very good job. It is always a great pleasure to win here.""
ProBuild trailed 7-3, but Molly McDowell hit two free throws and three jumpers to help her team gaining a 14-15 lead, before stretching the margin to 16-24 after the quarter.
With ProBuild leading 28-35 in the fourth period, coach Meindert van Veen of HLB drew a technical for yelling at a ref after one of his players got fouled. Anouk Biesters converted four free throws Belinda Bos made a basket out of the following possession: 28-41 at halftime.
In the third period ProBuild built an 18 point margin, 36-54, but HLB cut it to 61-74 at the end of the quarter. In the fourth period coach Van Veen ordered a full court press, which led to a 13-0 Den Helder run, cutting the margin to 65-66.
Jasmijn Overbeeke who made a driving lay-up and Molly McDowell and Anouk Biesters both hit a pair of free throws to give the Lions a 7-point edge, 65-72. Leonie Kooij scored for HLB, but Biesters and McDowell went to the line again to make it 67-75.
With two minutes to go Ilana Vergunst nailed a 3-pointer (see video) to finish it off, 67-78.
A last 7-0 run of Den Helder turned out to be too little and too late.
With Kati Harty's parents high above the Atlantic on their way back to the USA, ProBuild Lions will be in the city of Den Helder to face HLB Accountants for what probably will be the decisive game of the regular season. A clear case of bad timing.
The Lions and HLB battled each other in the Supercup, the Final Four-tournament and are scheduled for a meeting in the Finals of the Dutch Cup Tournament on March 27th.
The Supercup and the Final Four trophy are safely kept in the Indoor Centre Landsmeer. So far, so good. The Lions want the Dutch Cup 2010 too. And they strive to start the play-offs in first seed, to hold the home-advantage until the last round.
A win on Thursday would greatly enhance the chances to reach that goal.
In January the Lions and HLB had their last meeting. At their home court in Landsmeer, without injured Molly McDowell, ProBuild posted a 66-55 victory.
Game starts at 8:30 PM CET on Thursday. And of course there will be live game tweets.
Kati Harty scored 24 points as the ProBuild Lions posted a lopsided 83-57 win over STOL Grasshoppers.
Molly McDowell contributed 14 points and Anouk Biesters and Marijn Neyndorff each had 10 points.
With Grasshoppers Anouk Breel scored 13 points and Rianne Philippo chipped in with 11. With 4 and 0 points respectively, Americans Missy Mitidiero and Meghan Hutchens both had a quiet night.
Coach Laki Lakner said the game more or less went the way he anticipated. "We did a good job on the defensive end. We changed our defense a little since our last meeting, making it a bit harder for them to penetrate and kick the ball out to a shooter. I thought that went well. Offensively we shot 46% from the floor, so that was not bad either."
As usual the Lions had a slow start. Leading by just one point in the 6th minute, 9-8, coach Lakner took a time-out trying to unfreeze his team a little. A 10-3 run followed, leading to a 19-11 score at the end of the period.
Missy Mitidiero scored 19-13, but a new Lions-run was capped by two consecutive 3-pointers from Marijn Neyndorff to make it 34-19. At the break ProBuild held a 13-point edge, 36-23.
In the third period the Lions stretched their margin to 20 points, 59-39. In the fourth Kati Harty nailed a 3-pointer to spark a 16-0 spurt, which was capped by a 3-pointer of Anouk Biesters to make it 75-41.
Saturday ProBuild Lions hosts STOL Grasshoppers. Until now the Grasshoppers posted just one win, while Probuild suffered just one loss. Oddly, we're talking about the same game, on January 16th in Katwijk, when the Grasshoppers beat the Lions 87-82.
The game got kind of physical, with Molly McDowell smacking on the floor getting her wrist broken.
Are the Lions planning to take revenge beating Grasshoppers by 100 points or so? "No", coach Laki Lakner said. "It's not a special game to us. Winning by one point is enough."
The Lions will have to do without forward Karen Heinen, who is still suffering from her head injury.
Game starts at 7:30 PM CET.
Another win over Wereldtickets

Molly McDowell scored 19 points and Kati Harty had 18 as ProBuild Lions posted its second win in four days over Wereldticktes Leiderdorp, 60-79.
Anouk Biesters contributed 12 points, showing that she is making good progress in coming back to her former level.
Jasmijn Overbeeke chipped in with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Judy Wright scored 20 for Wereldtickets and Bridget Yoerger had 16.
Coach Laki Lakner said he saw his team displaying another night of solid defense. “Like on Wednesday, that was the key. We kept them on just 60 points, which is good. We had a slow start again, like before this season. We are working on it, but the cause is difficult to determine.”
Coach Lakner said he particularly liked how Anouk Biesters fitted in. “She’s really playing well, given the fact she was out for a year. It’s beyond my expectations.”
Leiderdorp led 15-7 with 50 seconds to go in the first period, but after a time-out of coach Lakner Katy Harty made a basket and Molly McDowell hit two shots, including a 3-pointer, to make it 15-14.
In the second quarter the Lions took a 21-31 but saw it melt away to 26-31 at intermission.
Right after the break Judy Wright and Willemijn Callenberg hit 3-pointers for Leiderdorp to change the lead, 32-31, but the Lions made a 0-7 run to regain it for good, 32-38.
At the end of the quarter Kati Harty scored 5 straight points to put ProBuild up 42-56.
In the last period Werteldtickets cut the margin to ten points again, 52-62, but that was as far as the Lions let it go. Marie Hoogstraten nailed two 3-pointers to help ProBuild cruise to a lopsided 60-79 victory over the third ranked team in the competition.
For the third time in four years ProBuild Lions reached the Finals of the Dutch Cup Tournament. The Lions beat Wereldtickets Leiderdorp 73-57.
In the other semis HLB Accounant posted an 84-54 win over Celeritas Donar.
Kati Harty led ProBuild with 30 points. Jasmijn Overbeeke had 16 points and 8 rebounds.
With Wereldtickets Bridget Yoerger scored 20 points and Judy Wright had 17.
Coach Laki Lakner said his team’s solid defense did the job. “The girls performed their defensive tasks well. Offensively as usually we had a slow start, but in the second period we made our offensive run, which put us up by 16 points at halftime. In the second half we kept the lead by playing tight defense.”
The game was tied after the first period, but in the second quarter Kati Harty scored 11 consecutive points to put the Lions up 27-20.
Jasmijn Overbeeke followed up with 5 points, blocked a shot by Wereldtickets’ great junior talent Zera Butter and set up Ilana Vergunst for a lay-up in a break-situation. After this ProBuild led 36-22.
At intermission the Lions had built their lead to 40-24.
In the second half ProBuild kept their defense tight and cruised to a lopsided 73-57 win.
Wednesday ProBuild Lions host Wereldtickets Leiderdorp in the semi-finals of the Dutch Cup Tournament. It is the first time both teams meet, this season.
Wereldtickets ranks third in the regular competition.
In the other semis HLB Accountants battles Celeritas Groningen.
