Datum: June 5, 2007

ProBuild Lions' management announced the signing of Burhan Alibegovic (1958) as their new head coach today. Like his predecessor Laki Lakner Mr. Alibegovic was born in the former Republic of Yugoslavia and came to the Netherlands during the war at the beginning of the 1990s. He coached MSV Noordwijk (men, second division) to a national championship and became general manager of Rotterdam Basketball (men, first division) from 2005 until 2007.

Burhan Alibegovic is also coach of the Dutch national men's team Under 20 and will combine this with his coach job with ProBuild Lions.

Board member Brian Benjamin said he was very happy to have been able to sign an experienced and talented coach as mr. Alibegovic. "We are confident Burhan will do a fine job with our team", he said. "Like Laki Lakner, he emphasizes defense as a key to success, but he's also a very good offensive coach. He has a long term vision which we think of as very important in our organization. We're looking forward very much to work with Burhan next season."

The Lions also signed a new assistant-coach: Steve Leysner, who coached the juniors last season. Mr. Leysner is the son of Roy Leysner, who coached the Lions to a championship during the 2000-2001 season and passed away in 2004.

Coach Laki Lakner has notified the ProBuild Lions management of his decision to leave the Lions. Lakner plans to return to his native country, Croatia, to take up a professional coaching job there or elsewhere in Europe. ProBuild Lions would have liked to continue with Laki Lakner as head coach, but understands and respects his decision. The Lions management has started the search for a new head coach.
